What the Urdu Poetry Character Counter Does

The Urdu Poetry Character Counter measures your shayari as you write it. It reports four figures at once: characters with spaces, characters without spaces, words, and misras, so you always know how long your verse is.

The counter is built for Urdu. It uses Unicode-aware rules, so a letter joined with a mark counts as one character the way a reader sees it, rather than as separate code points. This gives a count that matches what you actually read on the line.

Everything runs on your own device. Your poetry is never uploaded or stored, so it is safe for unpublished work and private drafts.

How to Count Your Poetry

1. Type or paste your shayari. Add your verse to the box. The direction is set for right-to-left Urdu.
2. Watch the counts update. The four figures change live as you type, so you see the length at every step.
3. Use one misra per line. This gives the clearest misra count, since the tool counts each non-empty line as a misra.
4. Copy the counts. Press Copy Counts to place a short summary on your clipboard.

How Characters Are Counted

The counter treats a character as a grapheme, which is one unit a reader sees, not one code point in memory. It uses the browser’s text segmenter where available, with a reliable fallback, so a base letter and its joined mark count as a single character.

This matters in Urdu, where a letter may carry a mark above or below it. Counting by graphemes gives the number you would reach if you counted the letters by eye. Words are counted using Unicode letter, mark, and number rules, so runs of Urdu letters are grouped correctly and stray punctuation is not counted as a word.

Characters With and Without Spaces

The counter shows two character figures. The first counts everything, including the spaces between words. The second removes all spaces, tabs, and line breaks, leaving only the visible letters and marks.

Both are useful in different places. A character limit on a status or a card usually counts spaces, so the first figure is the one to watch. When you want a sense of the pure length of the letters, the count without spaces is the clearer measure.

Reading Your Counts

The four cards give a full picture at a glance. Characters and without spaces show the length two ways, words shows how many words the verse holds, and misras shows how many lines carry text.

Because the counts update live, you can trim a line to fit a limit and watch the number drop at once. There is no submit step and no waiting, so editing stays quick while you shape the verse.

Accuracy and Limits of the Counter

The result is deterministic. The same text always returns the same counts. The tool measures your text only. It does not check meter, rhyme, or spelling, and it does not change your words.

Good to know: a misra is counted as any non-empty line, so if two misras share a line, they count as one. Other apps may count characters by code point rather than grapheme, so a count that includes joined marks can differ slightly from this reader-based count.

The counter runs fully in your browser with standard web technology. Your poetry is not uploaded, not stored, and not sent to any analytics service. When you close or refresh the page, the text is gone. This keeps it safe for unpublished verse and private drafts.
