What the Urdu Radif Finder Does

The Urdu Radif Finder picks out the radif of your ghazal. It reads your verse one misra per line, looks at the lines that rhyme, and finds the word or phrase they all repeat unchanged at the end.

It then shows that radif and marks each misra that carries it, so you can see at a glance whether the radif holds steady across the ghazal or slips on a line. This turns a careful reading into a quick, clear result.

Everything runs on your own device. Your ghazal is never uploaded or stored, so it is safe for unpublished work and private drafts.

What Is a Radif?

The radif is the fixed part of a ghazal’s rhyme. It is a word or a short phrase that repeats without change at the end of every rhyming line, right after the qaafiya, the rhyming word that does change.

Not every ghazal has a radif, since some rhyme on the qaafiya alone. When a radif is present, it gives the ghazal a steady refrain that a listener comes to expect, and keeping it exact on every rhyming line is part of the craft.

How to Find Your Radif

1. Paste your ghazal. Put one misra on each line, starting with the matla. The box is set for right-to-left Urdu.
2. Read the summary. The cards show the detected radif, its length in words, how many lines carry it, and the ashaar.
3. Scan the table. Each misra shows whether it carries the radif, and lines that do are tinted.
4. Fix and recheck. Adjust a rhyming line that misses the radif, paste it back, and confirm it now matches.

How the Radif Is Detected

The finder splits your ghazal into misras and looks at the lines that should rhyme: both misras of the matla, and every second line after that. Across these lines it compares the words at the end and keeps the longest run they all share.

That shared run of words is the radif. If the rhyming lines share their last word but differ before it, the radif is that single word. If they share two or more words, the radif is the longer phrase. A line that does not end with this run is marked so you can check it.

The tool reads and compares spelling only. It does not change your text, and the same ghazal always gives the same radif.

Reading Your Radif Results

The summary cards show the detected radif, the number of radif words, how many lines carry it, and the count of ashaar. Together they tell you whether a clear radif runs through your ghazal.

The table lists each misra and whether it carries the radif, with the carrying lines tinted. A rhyming line that does not carry the radif is flagged, which is a sign to read it again and check the ending.

Radif and Qaafiya Together

The radif and the qaafiya sit side by side at the end of a rhyming line. The radif is the fixed part that repeats unchanged, while the qaafiya is the rhyming word before it that changes from she’r to she’r.

Accuracy and Limits of the Finder

The result is deterministic. The same ghazal always returns the same radif. The tool reads word endings only. It does not hear the true sound, it does not check meter, and it does not judge your verse.

Good to know: the radif is found by exact word matching, so a radif spelt differently in one line will not match, and a ghazal that rhymes without a radif will show none. Use the finding as a guide and confirm the radif by ear.

The finder runs fully in your browser with standard web technology. Your ghazal is not uploaded or stored, and it is not sent to any analytics service. Only your star rating is sent, to record the tool’s rating. When you close the page, your text is gone.
