Find the qaafiya, the rhyming word before the radif, in each she’r of your ghazal, and see the shared rhyme sound.
Quick Answer
The Urdu Qaafiya Finder reads your ghazal one misra per line, detects the radif, and then pulls out the qaafiya, the rhyming word that sits just before it. It lists the qaafiya for each rhyming line and shows the common rhyme sound. This is a heuristic aid based on line endings, not authoritative prosody.
Find the Qaafiya
Paste your ghazal with one misra (line) on each row.

The qaafiya is taken as the word just before the radif on each rhyming line. It is a heuristic based on spelling, not sound, so a qaafiya spelled unusually may be missed. Confirm by ear.

What the Urdu Qaafiya Finder Does
The Urdu Qaafiya Finder pulls the rhyming word out of each she’r of your ghazal. It reads your verse one misra per line, works out the radif, and then finds the qaafiya, the word that carries the rhyme just before that radif.
It lists the qaafiya for every rhyming line and shows the sound they share, so you can check that your rhymes hold together across the ghazal. This turns a careful reading into a quick, visual result.
Everything runs on your own device. Your ghazal is never uploaded or stored, so it is safe for unpublished work and private drafts.
What Is a Qaafiya?
The qaafiya is the rhyming word of a ghazal. It changes from she’r to she’r but keeps the same rhyming sound, and it sits just before the radif, the fixed word or phrase repeated at the line ends.
For example, in a ghazal that rhymes on words like بہار, نکھار, and قرار, the qaafiya is that changing word, and the shared sound is the ending they have in common. The qaafiya is what gives a ghazal its music, so finding it clearly is a useful check.
How to Find Your Qaafiya
- Paste your ghazal. Put one misra on each line, starting with the matla. The box is set for right-to-left Urdu.
- Read the summary. The cards show the ashaar, the detected radif, the qaafiya words found, and the shared rhyme sound.
- Scan the table. Each rhyming misra shows its qaafiya word, and lines that share the rhyme are tinted.
- Fix and recheck. Adjust a line whose qaafiya does not fit, paste it back, and confirm the rhyme now holds.
How the Qaafiya Is Detected
The finder first splits your ghazal into misras and looks at the lines that should rhyme: both misras of the matla, and every second line after that. Across these lines it finds the longest run of words they all share at the end, which is the radif.
With the radif set aside, the tool takes the next word on each rhyming line as the qaafiya. It then compares the endings of these qaafiya words to find the sound they share, which is the rhyme that runs through the ghazal.
The tool reads and compares spelling only. It does not change your text, and the same ghazal always gives the same qaafiya list.
Reading Your Qaafiya Results
The summary cards show the count of ashaar, the detected radif, the number of qaafiya words found, and the shared rhyme sound. Together they tell you whether a clear rhyme runs through your ghazal.
The table lists each misra with its qaafiya word, and the rhyming lines are tinted so you can scan them quickly. If a qaafiya word looks out of place, it is a sign to read that line again and check the rhyme.

Qaafiya and Radif Together
The qaafiya and the radif work as a pair at the end of a rhyming line. The radif is the fixed part that repeats unchanged, while the qaafiya is the changing rhyming word right before it. A ghazal may have both, or a qaafiya alone with no radif.
This finder detects the radif first so it can isolate the qaafiya cleanly. To study the radif on its own, try the Urdu Radif Finder, and to see the whole rhyme scheme as letters, use the Urdu Poetry Rhyme Analyzer.
Who Uses This Qaafiya Finder
New poets use it to check that their qaafiya holds the same sound across a ghazal. Students use it to see the rhyming words picked out clearly while they learn the form. Editors use it to spot a she’r whose qaafiya slips out of the rhyme.
Anyone studying a ghazal uses it to list the qaafiya words at a glance, which is far quicker than reading each line end by hand.
Accuracy and Limits of the Finder
The result is deterministic. The same ghazal always returns the same qaafiya list. The tool reads word endings only. It does not hear the true sound of the rhyme, it does not check meter, and it does not judge your verse.
Good to know: the qaafiya is taken as the word before the detected radif, so an unusual layout, a missing radif, or a differently spelt word can throw the result off. Use the finding as a guide and confirm the qaafiya by ear.
Privacy and Data Processing
The finder runs fully in your browser with standard web technology. Your ghazal is not uploaded or stored, and it is not sent to any analytics service. Only your star rating is sent, to record the tool’s rating. When you close the page, your text is gone.

This free tool detects the radif and takes the word before it as the qaafiya, using spelling at the line ends. It does not hear the true sound of the rhyme, perform taqti, or judge your verse, and it does not change your text. Please confirm the qaafiya by ear or with a qualified reviewer.
