The Lakh and Crore System

Urdu groups large numbers differently from English. After hundreds comes the thousand, then the lakh (one hundred thousand), then the crore (ten million), then the arab (one billion). The converter follows this system exactly, so a number like 1,234,567 becomes بارہ لاکھ چونتیس ہزار پانچ سو سڑسٹھ.

Large Numbers and Decimals

The converter reads numbers up to and beyond the arab range, using the arab word as needed. If your number has a decimal point, the whole part is spelled in words and the digits after the point are read one by one following the Urdu word for point, اعشاریہ.

Accuracy and Limits

The converter is deterministic, so the same number always gives the same Urdu words. It follows the standard lakh and crore system and reads decimals digit by digit. It spells numbers only; it does not add currency words such as rupees or paisa, for which a dedicated currency tool is better.
