LAFAYETTE — Country music legend Randy Travis and rising star James Dupré will perform at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on March 13.
The performance is part of Travis’ “More Life Tour,” which is resuming in 2026 after a successful 2025 run, according to a community announcement.
The “More Life Tour” is described as a unique concert experience. Travis will appear onstage with his original touring band and special guest Dupré, who will sing Travis’ biggest hits. The show will include video segments highlighting Travis’ career in music, television and film, creating a live tribute to the country music icon.
Travis, who suffered a stroke in 2013, is unable to sing, but he will be present at each tour stop. He will engage with the band and fans, accompanied by his wife, Mary Travis.
Travis’ effect on country music
Travis has achieved lifetime sales of more than 25 million, making him one of the most successful multi-genre artists. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016 and has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1986. His accolades include seven Grammy Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music Awards and 10 American Music Awards.
Travis has 23 No. 1 singles and 31 Top 10 hits. Notable songs include “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Three Wooden Crosses.” His discography includes four gold albums, four platinum albums, one double platinum album, one triple platinum album and one quintuple platinum album. Since his stroke, he has made significant progress in his recovery, including improvements in speaking, walking and singing, according to the announcement.
After his stroke in 2013, Travis worked on his recovery with the support of his wife and physical therapy. In 2019, he released his memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen. In 2022, Travis released the documentary “More Life,” which won six Telly Awards. In May 2024, Travis released a new single, “Where That Came From,” with the assistance of AI technology. The song debuted at No. 45 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
James Dupré’s background
James Dupré, a native of Bayou Chicot, Louisiana, has been recognized as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Country Artists You Need to Know.” He gained popularity through social media and has performed at venues and festivals across the United States, Canada and Europe.
Dupré released his debut album “It’s All Happening” in 2010, which charted on Billboard. He signed with Warner Music Nashville in 2011 and began touring full time. In 2015, Dupré appeared on NBC’s “The Voice” (Season 9) with a four-chair turn, joining Adam Levine’s team.
Dupré’s sophomore album, “Stoned to Death,” included two singles that charted on the Billboard Indicator chart. He made his acting debut in the film “The Price,” where he played the son of a country singer portrayed by Randy Travis. Dupré was selected by Travis and his wife as the special guest vocalist for the “More Life Tour” in 2019.
In 2020, Dupré released his third studio album, “Home and Away,” featuring three singles. In September 2023, he made his Grand Ole Opry debut in Nashville. In May 2024, Dupré was featured on “CBS Sunday Morning” for his role as the “vocal bed” on the commercially released song “Where That Came From,” which marked Travis’ first new music in over a decade and was produced with the help of AI technology.
