What the Roman Urdu Word Mapper Does

The Roman Urdu Word Mapper lets you replace words across a whole text using rules you write yourself. You tell it which word becomes which, and it applies every rule at once, then shows you how many replacements it made.

How to Map Words

1. Write your rules. In the rules box, put one rule per line, like bht = bohat.
2. Paste your text. Drop the text you want to change into the text box.
3. Choose the options. Match whole words, ignore capitals, and keep original capitalisation are on by default.
4. See the result. The mapped text appears with a count of replacements.
5. Copy or download. Copy the result, or save it as a text file.

Writing Your Rules

A rule has two parts, the word to find and the word to use instead, with an equals sign or a colon between them. For example, mje = mujhe replaces every mje with mujhe. You can write as many rules as you like, one on each line. Empty lines are ignored, so you can space your rules out.

The word to use can be more than one word if you wish, so a rule like klye = ke liye works too. The tool reads your rules fresh every time, so you can adjust them and see the effect at once.

Whole Words, Case, and Capitals

Three options control how rules apply. Match whole words only, on by default, means a rule for ka will not change the middle of kaam. Match regardless of capitals means the rule works whether the word is capitalised or not. Keep the original capitalisation makes the replacement follow the original, so a capitalised word stays capitalised.

Good to know: if two rules could apply to the same word, the tool uses the rule for that exact word. Review the result when your rules overlap.

Accuracy and Limits

The mapper is deterministic, so the same text, rules, and options always give the same result. With whole-word matching on, it changes only complete words. It does not understand meaning, so it applies your rules exactly as written, which is why a quick review is wise for common words.

Good to know: the tool replaces words with your text as given; it does not translate or check spelling.

Privacy and Data Processing

The mapper runs fully in your browser with standard web technology. Your text and rules are not uploaded or stored, and they are not sent to any analytics service. Only your star rating is sent, to record the tool’s rating. When you close the page, your text is gone.
