Speaker Labels and Turns

A speaker label is the name at the start of a line, followed by a colon, such as Ali: or Sara:. The formatter finds these labels, tidies them to a single consistent style with a capital first letter and one space after the colon, and treats each labelled line as a new turn.

Lines without a label are treated as a continuation of the current speaker, so a turn that runs over several lines stays together. A blank line between turns, on by default, makes the back-and-forth easy to read.

Timestamps

Transcripts often begin lines with a timestamp, such as [00:12] or 0:45. By default the formatter keeps timestamps and tidies them into a consistent bracketed form at the start of the turn. If you do not need them, turn on the remove option and they are stripped, leaving just the speaker and their words.

Filler Words and Spacing

Spoken language is full of fillers, such as um, uh, and hmm. In a written transcript these can get in the way. The optional filler removal drops these standalone sounds while keeping your real words. Tidy spacing then collapses double spaces, fixes spacing around punctuation, and trims each line.

These options are separate, so you can keep the fillers for an exact record and still tidy the spacing, or remove both for a polished script.
