A word is any group of letters separated by spaces. The counter splits your text on spaces and line breaks, so each space separated unit counts as one word. This matches how most word counters and word processors work.

Urdu is written right to left and joins letters within a word, but words are still separated by spaces, so counting works the same way as in English. Numbers, whether Urdu or English digits, and words joined by punctuation are counted as words too. Very rarely, missing spaces between Urdu words can make a count look low, which is worth checking in long documents.

Word and character limits are everywhere, and hitting them matters:

Reading time is based on an average silent reading speed of about 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses a slower speaking pace of about 130 words per minute, which suits presentations and voice overs.

Keyword density is how often a word appears compared with the total number of words. The most used words list shows your top words with a count and a percentage, so you can see which words you repeat.

Writers use this to avoid repeating the same word too often, and content creators use it to check that a topic word appears enough to be clear, without stuffing. If one word takes up a large share of your text, consider using synonyms from an Urdu dictionary.

A word counter measures whole words, while a character counter measures every letter and space. You need words for essays and articles, and characters for social media and SMS, where limits are set in characters.

• Hidden characters. Text copied from PDFs or websites can carry invisible characters. Clean it first for an accurate count.
