Diver Sets World Record with 370-Foot Underwater Walk

An Australian diver has broken a world record by swimming 370 feet beneath the surface of a swimming pool in a single breath.

Amber Bourke, a diver from Queensland, travelled a distance longer than the length of an American football field, setting the record for the longest distance swum by a woman in one breath.

In a video shared by Guinness World Records on Instagram, Bourke is shown walking along the bottom of the pool with her hips bent at a 90-degree angle. Her torso remained steady while her legs did all the work.

According to Guinness World Records, Bourke stumbled a few times but quickly regained her footing and kept moving forward.

When she reached the end of the pool, she touched the wall with her hands and feet before turning around and continuing her feat in the opposite direction.

Bourke completed two full laps along the bottom of the pool and a few extra steps before finally surfacing for air. While still recovering in the pool, the distance she had covered was measured and confirmed as “a new world record.”

“I’ve been a freediving instructor for over 10 years, and this was something I wanted to achieve for my own sense of accomplishment,” Bourke said. “Earning a Guinness World Records title has always been a dream of mine, and I also wanted to raise funds for the Australian Marine Conservation Society along the way.”
