Animal care officers in Texas received a peculiar call to capture an escaped pet in a neighborhood, and it turned out to be a spider monkey.
On Tuesday, San Antonio Animal Care Services was summoned to the area of Poteet and Jourdanton, approximately 13 miles south of the city, after a monkey was reported roaming freely in a residential area.
When rescue teams arrived, they found the small, illegal household pet causing chaos, running across rooftops and climbing fences. The monkey’s antics brought the neighborhood to a standstill.
Fortunately, the ACS team was able to capture the monkey safely and return it to its owners, who do not reside in the area.
The authorities informed the owners that keeping exotic animals in the area was illegal and subsequently issued them five criminal citations for the offense.
The owners received two citations for possessing a restricted animal and for bringing another monkey to capture the escaped monkey. Additionally, they were issued one citation for having an animal roaming freely, another for failing to provide rabies vaccination, and a final one for not microchipping the animal, according to KSAT.
