Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, author, and pilot Lauren Sanchez shared her wedding plans on the TODAY show. Her answer was surprising; she acted like she wasn’t expecting the question. “So, you asked!” Sanchez said, and the hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb yelled, “Of course, we asked!”
“I’m getting to it right now,” Sanchez said about the wedding planning. “I’m very excited about it. I’m thinking about the dress; I have to tell you. I have a Pinterest board, just like every other bride!”
‘Life is just beginning’
Reflecting on her life, she mentioned that when she was 20, she thought her life was over. “I never thought at 54—I’m going to be 55 (on December 19)—that I’d be an author and get married. Life is just beginning. When I was 20, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, life is over at 50.'”
“Let me tell you: It is not, ladies,” she continued. “It is not over. It is just beginning. It just gets better and better.”
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have been engaged since May 2023. Bezos was previously married to MacKenzie Scott from 1993 to 2019, and they have four children together. Sanchez was married to Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, with whom she has two children, and she also has another child with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez.
Sanchez is a pilot planning to fly to outer space with a group of women. On the show, she revealed that all the women on the flight will be explorers.
“And one time, Jeff told me,” Sanchez said. “He said, ‘You know, you’re an explorer.’ I was like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yes, you’re a pilot; you like to see the world.’ I never thought of myself as an explorer, and when he said, ‘OK, why don’t you take an incredible group of women up?’ I thought, ‘I’m picking all explorers.’ So they can come back and share their stories about how going to space changes them.”
The wedding will be a grand event with the couple’s A-list friends this Christmas in Aspen, Colorado.
