The Categories

Each category adds the right code points to the pattern. Letters cover the Urdu and Arabic-script letters, including the extra letters Urdu uses. Urdu digits cover the eastern digit forms. Marks cover the vowel signs and diacritics that sit on a letter. Punctuation covers the Urdu comma, semicolon, question mark, and full stop. Tick only what you need for a tight, exact pattern.

Ranges and Properties

There are two ways to match letters. Ranges list the exact blocks of code points and work in any regular-expression engine. The Arabic-script property is shorter and covers the whole script in one term, but it needs the unicode flag. The generator offers both, and switches on the unicode flag automatically when you choose the property form, so the pattern stays valid.

Testing on a Sample

A pattern is only useful if it matches what you expect. When you paste a sample, the generator applies the pattern and highlights every match, and it counts them in the panel. This lets you confirm, for example, that letters are matched while digits are left alone, before you trust the pattern in your own program.
