The Urdu Unicode Character Search helps you find a character when you cannot type it. You search by name, by a keyword, or by a code point, and it lists the matching Urdu and Arabic characters with the name, code point, and category, each one ready to copy.

It is built around a catalog of the characters that matter for Urdu, so the results are relevant rather than a flood of every character that happens to match.

How to Search

1. Type your search. Enter a name, a keyword, or a code point.
2. Read the matches. See the characters that match, with their details.
3. Copy a character. Click a result to copy that character.

Searching by Name

Type part of a character’s name or a plain keyword, such as hamza, alef, comma, or question, and the search lists every catalog character whose name or keywords contain it. This is the easy way in when you know what the character is called but not its code.

Searching by Code Point

If you know the code point, type it as four hex digits, with or without the U plus prefix, such as 0679 or U+0679. The search recognises a code point and jumps straight to that character, which is handy when you have a code from a font or a spec.

The Catalog

The search covers a curated catalog of the characters that matter for Urdu: the letters of the alphabet, the diacritics, the punctuation, the digits, and the invisible format characters. You can narrow the search to letters, to marks and punctuation, or to invisible characters with the options.

Accuracy and Limits

The search covers a curated catalog of the characters that matter for Urdu, so a name or code point match within it is exact. It is not a search of all of Unicode, so a rare character outside the catalog will not appear; for a code point outside the catalog, the code point lookup tool is the better fit.

Good to know: the name search matches the names and keywords in the catalog, not the full Unicode name list.
